I am finally home, after three weeks exploring southern California with baby and husband in tow. The idea was to get away from the spring rain here in the northwest which has actually felt more like November rain recently; and to get in some yoga classes from some of my favourite teachers, oh yes and surf too.
I recently wrote a guide to the best eco-yoga mats for Granville Magazine’s The Goods Blog... Thought you might find it interesting.
If finding your style of yoga class and/or teacher from the hundreds displaying their offerings in Vancouver wasn’t overwhelming enough, try finding the ideal yoga mat.
What? You thought yoga was supposed to be this peaceful, bliss-inducing activity? Well, take a breath, a slow, deep one, maybe even a couple.

We were happy to discover an array of yummy chais down under. Our favourite currently is the Chai Tea Company’s Organic Rainbow Chai, a blend of 49% Certified Organic Black tea, from the highlands of Sri Lanka, and 51% Certified Organic chunky spice.
The aromatic mix of cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, black pepper, nutmeg and star anise is as tasty as my mom’s homemade chai from Bombay, while the company’s committment to sustainability is inspiring. The “Chai Shed” where the Chai Tea Company’s has been blending and packaging its nine chai flavours since the past twenty years – in recycled cardboard boxes of course – is located deep in the forests of New South Wales and is completely off the grid, powered solely by solar energy, as are the homes of the company’s founders.
Sipping chai has never felt so good.

Vancouver has been under a cold spell recently… and I’ve thwarted off the chilly air by lighting as many candles as I possibly can, while practicing yoga in my living room. Somehow the glow keeps me warm… it’s all in the mind isn’t it?
I am in love with the soy wax candles by Trillium. Handcrafted in the traditional way in Nelson, BC, these candles are made with pure, essential oils and have lead-free wicks. Soy wax is also both non-toxic and biodegradable. Taking eco-chic to the packaging as well, Trillium candles arrive in a recyclable container with a pretty cover and ribbon tie and burn smoke-free for 35 hours.
