Mother’s Day is approaching. This year will be my first year to experience it on the other side. As I write this, I feel connected to my own mother, our lineage of mothers, and to our universal mother, the Earth. It is time, now more than ever to shower our Earth with that sacred love and connection she has so long cocooned us with. As James Cameron showed us in Avatar, the consequences of ignoring the heart of our planet are terrible. And as art mirrors life which mirrors art, we see aspects of this throughout our world. The planet is heating up, something’s brewing. We have to act now.

Mumbai Mornings… (née Bombay))
I just returned back to Vancouver and Ucluelet from a visit to a city I still call Bombay – my birthplace and former home town. Amongst the highlights were; spending time with family + friends, teaching some Blissology + Yoga workshops at Yoga Sutra, researching more spas for an upcoming Asia Spa magazine feature on Bombay spas; and casting my “eagle eye” over the yoga alignment at a Vogue, India photoshoot featuring local yoga instructors, that fortuitously enough, a friend from Vancouver, the super-talented Martin Prihoda, was shooting. One of those small-world stories. Read on for some of Yogue’s Mumbai insider tips.
The Art of Adorment: Yogic Bridal Jewelry
Canadian jewelry designer + yogini, Sonja Picard launched her eponymous jewelry line, the Sonja Picard Collection (SPC) in 2000, which now has over 350 pieces crafted in silver, gold, gemstones and Canadian diamonds and celebrates the yogic and tantric traditions of adornment. Today, Sonja puts her sculptural background to use as she first hand-carves each original piece in wax, invoking the human spirit and offering a sculptural organic quality to the jewelry. As Sonja launches the newest addition to her work, the SPC Bridal Collection, Yogue chats with her about Yoga, creativity, the eco aspects of her design process and of course bridal inspired yogic jewelry.

Buddha Purnima
I thought I would invoke this icon of peace and compassion on Buddha Purnima, a day celebrated by Buddhists and Hindus the world over as the day when the Buddha was born, gained enlightenment and attained Nirvana.
